Training is not mandatory, individuals with adequate knowledge of Scrum methodology can opt to take the PSM certification exam directly from Scrum.org. However, those who undergo PSM training stand a better chance of passing the PSM I certification exam on their first attempt. Also, when participants undergo PSM training, they get 2 attempts for the PSM certification exam.
